CHAIRMAN MILLER called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order
at 11:33 a.m. He stated HCR 11 (SOBRIETY AWARENESS MONTH: MARCH
1995) was being removed from the agenda for calendaring because it
was not yet in the committee's possession.

SENATOR DUNCAN moved and asked unanimous consent that SB 3

Hearing no objection, it was so ordered.

CHAIRMAN MILLER stated the last item on the agenda was a Senate
proposal to purchase 17 Power Macintosh 6100/66 computers and
software for Senate offices. The offices of Senators Miller,
Rieger and Torgerson already have the Power Macs, and it is his
intention to have one Power Mac installed in the remaining
 senators' offices.

SENATOR DUNCAN asked where these Power Macs would be purchased and
if the dollar per unit price contained in the memo was a firm
price. CHAIRMAN MILLER answered that the proposal will go through
the normal process of being put out for bid.

DARYEL DONALDSON, Manager of Data Processing, Legislative Affairs
Agency, explained the prices he gave to Senator Miller's office are
based upon previous solicitations that the Agency has done. An
Apple direct contract they have with the factory is consistently
low, although their delivery time is one to three weeks. Quite
often, they can get them in less time than that from a dealer, but
the dealers have been approximately $200 per unit higher than the
 Apple direct factory costs.

CHAIRMAN MILLER said it was his understanding that the Macintosh
SE's that are currently in some Senate offices are pretty
antiquated and, as the new computers come on line, his intention is
to get rid of some of those SE's. He added that the disposal of
those units could be the topic for a future meeting.

CHAIRMAN MILLER asked how long it will take to get the computers if
the proposal is approved. DARYEL DONALDSON responded that he
thought that in three weeks they can have them delivered and be
well on their way to installing them.

There being no further discussion, CHAIRMAN MILLER asked for the
 will of the committee.

SENATOR SALO moved that the Senate Rules Committee approve the
purchase of the 17 Power Macintosh 6100/66 computers and the
Microsoft Word 6.0 and Microsoft Office 6.0 software. Hearing no
